There are loads of options and permutations of ways for you to get to us. Due to the wide range of travel preferences you may have, it is not possible for us to arrange your travel to us, but we are able to provide the attached guidance on the most popular methods. We regularly update this information as we become aware of changes but are not able to guarantee that the information is correct at all times.
We usually recommend that to get the most out of the areas where we hold our breaks it is best to hire a car for the duration of your stay. However we also realise that this option does not suit everyone and there is no problem staying with us without having your own car available. Many people treat our breaks as a chance to completely unwind and do not want to spend their time charging around visiting places.
We have included notes on the specific country pages on how to get to each property without a hire car. Once with us, the absence of your own car need not be a big disadvantage as it will still be possible to visit many of the local sights, either sharing with someone else or with Jonathan and Linda (who are also keen to see more of each area). Please feel free to call us to discuss any part of your travel arrangements
The main alternatives to air/car hire are ferry/own car and train/car hire. These are also discussed in more detail.
Ferry/own car is relatively slow but does allow you to put together a multi-venue holiday or to take the opportunity to explore other regions on the way to or from us.
The train is definitely an alternative. For instance, the journey times by rail to our breaks in France would be by the TGV network and are not that different from the time it would take by air, once driving and check-in times are added in. And the train can sometimes maintain a greater level of romance than other methods of travel. For instance, Paris to Madrid via the overnight “Francisco de Goya” train is quite an adventure. We have set out some of the possible train routes to us.
You are also advised to look on one or other of the travel websites for other alternatives e.g. www.expedia.co.uk for air travel, or www.raileurope.com for trains.
